A Bridge to a New You
If you’re missing one or more teeth causing a gap in your smile, the effects can be much worse than a loss of confidence. Aside from the unsightly gap in your smile, it can be difficult to enjoy eating, and can have an impact on your speech and your oral health. Thankfully, we can avoid all of that and give you your confident smile back with a dental bridge from Complete Dental Care.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is a prosthetic oral appliance that consists of one or more fabricated teeth to fill the gap, secured to the surrounding teeth with the help of dental crowns, or with dental implants. Bridges help maintain the integrity of surrounding teeth and preserve your bite, jawbone health, and facial contour. There are different types of bridges including fixed or removable, and implant-supported bridges. A comprehensive consultation with your doctor will determine which is best for you.
Do I need a bridge?
If you are missing one or more teeth in a row, causing a gap in your smile, your doctor will likely recommend a dental bridge. Your oral health is a complex system, and when one piece goes missing, the whole thing can become compromised. When missing teeth go unreplaced, it can have serious consequences for your oral health. Surrounding teeth will shift and rotate, your bite will become compromised, and the underlying jawbone will begin to deteriorate or atrophy without the supporting tooth roots. Replacing teeth and restoring your smile with a dental bridge is the best way to protect your greatest asset – your healthy smile.
What does the process look like?
With the help of our advanced CEREC® technology, we can often design, fabricate, and place dental bridges in a single appointment! We will take digital images that will then be converted into a 3D digital model, and our CEREC® machine will create a precision bridge to perfectly fill the gap in your smile. Your doctor will prepare your surrounding teeth to be fitted for crowns, and will secure your new bridge in place the very same appointment.
Do I need implants?
Dental implants are not necessary for bridges, but when several teeth are missing, implants can offer unmatched stability and support, and can help prevent the underlying jawbone from deteriorating. Dental implants are the gold standard in modern tooth replacement technology. Implant-supported bridges are anchored to the jawbone, therefore they do not require the help of dental crowns on either side. If you are a healthy candidate for dental implants, we would love to discuss the option of securing your bridge and your oral health with implants.
How do I care for my bridge?
Modern bridges can be cared for just like your natural teeth. You will brush and floss regularly, but should pay extra close attention to cleaning well around and under your bridge to prevent decay and gum disease. It is also essential that you maintain your regular visits with us at Complete Dental Care so we can check in and make sure your bridge stays healthy and functioning for as long as possible.
